He's just a smart player. Poor man's Bergeron. Had to laugh at Jagr and Kurri, he's never a dynamic player but just solid and good at picking up the garbage. 1st line center? Not ideal

I wouldn't compare him to guys like Jagr and Kurri, as he's more of a power forward than a finesse player (not that he doesn't have good hands), but he's having a great run right now.

It's Game 4. My guess right now is Couturier still a big, predominantly defensive centerman who is off to a very good start. However, we should all wait until at least January before we start overreacting to his early success. I'm not sold on him being a first line center. I think the top line still needs someone faster at center, and with better hands.

Again, over his last 24 games dating back to last season, he has 23 points. Closed out last season with 17 points in the final 19 games (with Weise and Schenn as his linemates). Year before that, he was on a 15 points in 15 games run when he got hurt.

The hints of offensive ability have always been there. Now he's just been put in a situation more conducive to sustaining it.

Bottom line is whoever plays with Coots, gets more productive. He is an advanced stats dream. And its about time the people are starting to see it with their eyes as well as the spreadsheet.

Couts looked good with Schenn. He had a pretty good run with Matt Read when he first signed with team. Couts with Read and Steve Downie(!) were hot for a stretch even.

I think this first line has potential to be very good
Maybe not Legion of Doom or Leach/Clarke/Barber but a line that gives them goal scoring at even strength, which they haven’t had from their #1 line for two seasons.

Nolan Patrick may turn into a #1 C with time.

For now it’s Cout’s chance to run with it.
